Since the graduation of our first student in 1975, the Genetics Program has awarded doctoral degrees to over 135 students. Most of our students have continued active research as postdoctoral associates prior to assuming academic or research positions. As successful scientists, our alumni hold academic, governmental and industrial posts. They have also been USDA scientists, corporate consultants, directors of hospital genetics services and members of peer review panels for the National Institute of Health and the National Science Foundation. Their range of experimental organisms include bacteria, viruses, humans, Drosophila and plants, while their specific interests extend from Fragile X syndrome to chloroplast differentiation.
