Jim Hancock (Department of Horticulture, and former Director of the Plant Breeding and Genetics Program) has been named a University Distinguished Professor,
recognizing his multifaceted contributions to plant breeding and
research of polyploids, as well as his dedication to service and

Dean Della Penna, (Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics) has been named a University Distinguished Professor, recognizing his research in plant biochemistry and genetic engineering . (February 8, 2008)
Congratulations to Gaurav Moghe, first year Genetics student, for taking the third place prize at the MSU OISS Essay writing contest. His essay reflected upon his experiences in adjusting to the American culture. (November 16, 2007)

Harrie Van Erp, doctoral student in Jonathan Walton's research group, received a doctoral completion fellowship from the College of Natural Science. (May 14, 2007)
Tejas Kadaki awarded the Hsiung-Kimball Award,
which is given annually to one graduate or undergraduate student "on
the basis of academic excellence and potential to succeed in their
chosen field." Preference is given, when possible, to an applicant
whose academic interests are in either clinical virology or
bacteriology. (May 4, 2007)
